 Delta GEMS was created to catch the dreams of African American adolescent girls aged 14-18. Delta GEMS provides the framework to actualize those dreams through the performance of specific tasks that develop a CAN DO attitude.

GOALS:

  • To instill the need to excel academically

  • To provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success;

  • To assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for their futures high school and beyond

  • To create compassionate, caring, and community-minded young women by actively

  • involving them in service learning and community service opportunities.

Mission:

The Delta GEMS framework is composed of five major components (Scholarship, Sisterhood, Show Me the Money, Service, and Infinitely Complete), forming a road map for college and career planning. Topics within the five major components are designed to provide interactive lessons and activities that provide opportunities for self-reflection and individual growth. The Peoria Alumnae Chapter Peoria Alumnae Chapter Peoria Alumnae Chapter Delta GEMS program starts from September until May of each year. The Delta GEMS meetings are every third Saturday of each month. The GEMS participates in workshops, public service, and many more activities.

 DELTA GEMS ACTIVITIES

 

Each year, the GEMS are challenged to be academically and socially responsible.

We offer workshops and seminars in the areas of:

  • Scholastic Achievement

  • College 101

  • Healthy Lifestyles

  • Healthy Relationships

  • The Power of Being a Lady

These workshops are conducted by experts in the community, as well as members of the Peoria Alumnae Chapter. We also stress the importance of giving back to our community by lending our skills to community service projects.

We have been able to serve the follow organizations:

  • Crittenton Center

  • Loaves & Fish (FUMC)

  • Salvation Army

  • Hulburt House

  • MLK Luncheon

 

Lastly, we encourage the ladies to HAVE FUN! We often provide a HAVE FUN venue so the young ladies can

socialize with each other, as well as with members of our chapter. We welcome your daughter, sister, niece, cousin, or good friends to attend the opening session in September.
